Here are the questions you are going to have when considering moving to Seattle because we had them too. They are placed in the order of how we usually get asked them:
Are there Kosher Restaurants? Yes. They include: A Pizza place, a bunch of certified Kosher vegetarian restaurants, a bagel/breakfast place and deli counters in grocery stores. Your follow up question: Why no meat restaurants? Yenta Answer: Come here and open one and you will have a monopoly on the business! Practical answer: We have many kosher meat options in our grocery stores plus a company that delivers meat and kosher groceries right to your door so you don’t even have to leave your house (It’s like Fresh Direct/Amazon Fresh but it’s all Kosher!) Plus people here are very proud of their BBQ Skills. Many of the local fundraisers are built around food so you don’t miss the meat restaurants because there is always another kosher food event.
Are there Jewish Day Schools for my kids? Of course! There are three pre school-8th grade day schools, a co-ed high school and an all girls high school. An all boys high school is opening in the fall of 2018.
Is there a shul for me? Of course! We have many different Orthodox Congregations and Minyans for you to choose from. You have so many options we can help find the one that is right for you!
Are there activities for my kids? One of the best things about Seattle is the very active youth programs at the synagogues as well as day camps, sleep away camps and a very active NCSY Chapter.
Is there a mikvah? There are several and at least one in each of the three major Orthodox neighborhood in Seattle and a few in other neighborhoods too. Immediate follow up question: Is there an eruv? Yes for those same neighborhoods.
